2:00 PM - 5:00 PM Research Exhibition (Willcox A, Level 2)
Graduate school representatives will hear from students who have submitted proposals to speak during the research exhibition. The exhibition theme is “TransFORMations in Building Design, Construction, and Technology.”
NextFORM invites exploration into the evolving boundaries of architecture, construction, and technology—challenging students to imagine what comes next in the way we conceive, shape, and realize the built environment.
At its core, NextFORM is about transformation—rethinking traditional models and embracing change through innovation. This theme encourages proposals that investigate how buildings and construction practices are being redefined by new technological tools, priorities, and cultural shifts. It is a call to reflect on where we’ve been, where we are now, and how we can responsibly, creatively, and inclusively shape the environments of the future.
Design Transformations
Adaptive reuse and resilient design
Biophilic and human-centered environments
Equity, inclusion, and accessibility in spatial design
Interdisciplinary design thinking
Construction Innovations
Off-site, modular, or prefabricated construction
Sustainable construction methods and circular economies
Labor, automation, and the future of the construction workforce
Technology Integration
Emerging tools: AI, AR/VR, robotics, and digital fabrication
Smart buildings, responsive systems, and energy efficiency
Data-informed design and performance-driven solutions
Why It Matters:
As global challenges demand smarter, more adaptable, and more equitable built environments, NextFORM encourages students to think critically and creatively about how we can transform not only our physical structures—but also the processes, collaborations, and values that shape them.
Whether speculative or practical, deeply technical or broadly visionary, submissions under the NextFORM theme should offer bold perspectives on the next form of our built world.
